Did You Know?
When you have been approached and asked to come in for an interview, make sure you go back to the advertisement and thoroughly read it so you understand what’s required for the position. Not only should you know this information, but it gives you the opportunity to link your experience and skills with the requirements of the job.
Salary Survey
This month we have focused on two positions, Reception and Accounts Payable. Salary bands can vary between Government and the Private Sector, depending on the size, industry and location of the workplace.  Â
Â
Government pay bands are more structured, offering a range that most departments fall under. Private Sector is trickier; if you are a Receptionist in the CBD you more often than not will attract a higher salary than in the suburbs.
Be aware this doesn’t mean you’re financially better off!
City = Corporate Attire = $$$
City = No Parking / Limited Parking = Public Transport which = $$$ and time!
So you may get an extra $20 or $40 per week in your take home pay each week but how much have you s
pent on your train ticket a new shirt and time spent waiting for a train?
Working in the suburbs can have its advantages such as on-site parking, uniforms or less formal attire, and flexible working hours.
The above statements are a generalisation and are not always relevant, but keep these factors in mind when applying for roles.
The size of a company can be a reflection on the salary being offered. An Accounts Payable role in a small business may only be a processing role and include more ad hoc duties where as in a larger organisation you will be focused purely on Accounts Payable.
It’s important to completely understand the role and its expectations before accepting any offers, this way you will be able to decide if you are willing to work for the salary and if the salary is a reflection of the role and its duties.  Â
